Client Program / Project Description. The purpose of these primary reference documents is to provide guidance for design, construction and maintenance of ADOT projects on lands managed by the USDA Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM). They describe accepted procedures, and the needs and concerns of each agency to facilitate the creation of safe, environmentally sound and aesthetically pleasing highway corridors. The Guidelines also communicate philosophy, approach and examples from which new applications and techniques can be developed.
ADOT requested that WSA update the initial version of the Guidelines document to incorporate new information, to ensure that key stakeholders—particularly the USFS and BLM—were involved, and to add a supplemental, self-paced digital presentation component.
WSA Scope and Role. WSA incorporated information in the form of review comments and updated reference documents, and images including photographs, sketches, and detail drawings into the Guidelines. WSA led Steering Committee Review and Comment Meetings and coordinated the publication and on-line posting of documents. The digital presentation was prepared using Microsoft PowerPoint and included an overview presentation and 12, chapter/appendix tutorials.
